Third Sector forum: evaluating the impact of coaching

Alison Carter will explore the topic of evaluating the impact of coaching, using as examples two real-life impact evaluations of one to one career coaching and wellbeing coaching interventions and the benefits of the results obtained. The session will deepened your understanding of why impact evaluation is important and crucially help you reflect on the line of sight between the purpose of your coaching offers and the conditions required to maximise its impact.

This will be a thought provoking session to challenge assumptions about the why, what, when, where, how and who of evaluating outcomes from coaching.

Alison Carter

Alison is a principal research fellow at the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) and has twenty-five years research and evaluation experience. She writes, speaks and consults on a range of change readiness and leadership development issues, but it is her evaluation of in-company experiential learning (especially coaching) for which she is recognised as an international expert.

Her current research interests include coaching for working carers and evaluating employer-sponsored career development initiatives. She recently led an action research project with 13 employers on ‘Change Ready; Change Able Teams’ and led a study comparing the impact, at both individual and collective levels, from different mindfulness-based training programmes.

Alison was a founding Director of EMCC and regularly presents her coaching research at prestigious conferences including the US Academy of Management. Previously Alison worked in a range of HR, learning & development and senior management roles in the NHS and IBM (UK).
